I agree with you - I think the publishers just want to make sure it’s a sure fire bet before they put money into someone new … kind of like what we’re seeing right now with mainstream movies - in my opinion they’re more formulaic than original. It just makes it all the more rewarding if you come out and defy expectations so you get a chance at a nice big “I-told-ya-so”
